Your 2023 Compensation

November 2022

Dear Member:

Your devotion and stewardship are the essential elements in your church’s ability to fulfill its ministry.

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the landscape of how you are called to do ministry in these challenging times. In this environment, many of you have been called upon to work in new and innovative ways to meet the needs of your congregation and community, and you are working harder than ever before. With the help of technology, many of your churches are also reaching wider audiences, extending the reach of your ministry.

Your passion for doing Christ’s work comes from a deep conviction that God called you to this path. Still, adequate compensation is essential for maintaining the standard of living you need to continue spreading the gospel without anxiety over your financial wellness and financial future. MMBB stands alongside you to encourage your sense of worth and an awareness about the special gifts you bring to ministry, including leadership and the many ways you are helping churches to lead in their communities despite the very personal losses they have experienced.

We at MMBB are mindful of the economic pressures you face as you try to keep pace with the rising cost of living and its impact on your financial resources balanced with the need for adequate compensation. MMBB’s mission — to promote interest in the better maintenance of the ministry — includes helping you to advocate for a fair compensation package. To that end, we sent the enclosed letter and worksheet to your church employer. Notwithstanding financial challenges your church may be facing in these inflationary times, our letter suggests that the church consider increasing your compensation based on increases in the cost of living, your experience, education, accomplishments and community standards for those working in similar professional roles.

If you have questions about compensation—and the special rules around clergy compensation are complex—please don’t hesitate to contact a Senior Benefits Specialist at 800.986.6222 or [email protected].

With blessings,
