MMBB Financial Services

As we pause on April 4 to remember the life and ministry of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., MMBB Financial Services takes time to reflect on its long relationship with his family beginning in 1963 when Dr. King became a member of the MMBB plans. Dr. King’s ministry in the quest for justice and human dignity took him across the length and breadth of this nation and, very often, to places of great danger. Dr. Ralph Abernathy of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, who was already a member of MMBB, was instrumental in convincing Dr. King to fill out an MMBB membership application. MMBB supported King’s family for over 35 years following his assassination in 1968.

During the civil rights movement, MMBB expressed support for equal rights and offered financial support to pastors dismissed because of their pastoral leadership on civil rights. Our historical records indicate that “in 1965, after several MMBB Board members attended a church sponsored conference in Baton Rouge, LA, they understood that support for civil rights was a critical priority.” 1 In these and many other public and private acts, MMBB served as a witness for justice that was prophetic, personal and institutional.

For over 100 years MMBB Financial Services has offered investment and retirement advice and benefits specifically designed to meet the needs of churches, church workers and affiliated organizations. Our ministry has been, and continues to be, to manage entrusted resources and to assist our members and their dependents in building a secure financial future. The enduring values and principles that guided our founders in 1911 propel our ministry today and our vision for the future.

As it was during the time of Dr. King, the financial wellness of pastoral leaders has been a cornerstone of MMBB’s mission. Our historic role and ongoing experience with the economic challenges facing pastoral leaders has uniquely positioned MMBB to address these challenges at a time when the pastoral landscape and the church are rapidly changing.

As you continue in the call towards prophetic justice, know that MMBB Financial Services stands with you as a premier financial services organization and a leader in the arena of financial wellness.
