NEW YORK, NY, June 17, 2011 – In honor of its centennial celebration, The Ministers and Missionaries Benefit Board (MMBB) is initiating a Century of Service Leadership Award to recognize visionary leadership in church, interchurch or transdenominational relationships.
The Century of Service Leadership Award will be presented annually from 2011 through 2013. This period honors the time between the passage of a resolution by the Northern Baptist Convention creating MMBB in 1911 and its subsequent incorporation in 1913. The award comes with a $1,000 prize.
“Henry L. Morehouse and Everett T. Tomlinson, MMBB’s visionary founders, defined their mission ‘to promote interest in the better maintenance of the ministry’,” explained MMBB’s executive director Sumner M. Grant. “The Century of Service Leadership Award pays homage to that founding vision while recognizing that meeting the needs of the 21st century minister requires that we look beyond denominational boundaries and celebrate bold and innovative ideas that strengthen the church.”
The first Century of Service Leadership Award will be presented on June 23, 2011 as part of the Baptist Center for Ethics luncheon at the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship General Assembly in Tampa, Florida.
