MMBB Distributes $831,000 To Retired Clergy & Lay Employees

The Ministers and Missionaries Benefit Board (MMBB) has distributed $831,000 to approximately 4,000 retired American Baptist Churches (ABCUSA) ministers, missionaries and retired lay employees. These funds are distributed annually in the form of “Thank You” checks to express appreciation to individuals who have served ABCUSA for 15 or more years.

“MMBB was founded nearly 100 years ago to promote the better maintenance of the ministry,” noted MMBB’s executive director, Sumner M. Grant. “The ‘Thank You’ checks we distribute just before Thanksgiving are an important part of our effort to fulfill this mission.”

The Retired Ministers and Missionaries Offering (RMMO), an annual ABCUSA offering, provides funding for the “Thank You” checks distributed to clergy. This year’s RMMO offering will take place at most ABCUSA churches on Sunday, December 5.

MMBB’s endowment provides the funds for “Thank You” checks to lay employees, continuing a tradition begun in 1980. As Sumner M. Grant noted, “We are humbled by the dedication of our retired clergy and staff, and we are fortunate to be able to express our appreciation each year.”
