Dr. Robert Parham Receives First MMBB Century of Service Leadership Award

ATLANTA, GA, June 23, 2011 – The Ministers and Missionaries Benefit Board (MMBB) today presented its first Century of Service Leadership Award to Dr. Robert Parham, founder and CEO of the Baptist Center for Ethics and Executive editor of EthicsDaily.com. Dr. Parham received the award at the Baptist Center for Ethics Luncheon. The award includes a $1,000 grant.
“Robert Parham’s strong example of leadership through service has changed thousands of person’s lives,” explained Rev. Dr. David Hinson, an MMBB senior benefits consultant, as he presented the award. “He has never wavered in his daily commitment to promote Christian ethics, education, and excellence. Robert has asked people to challenge the preconceptions and prejudices of the past in order to explore new visions associated with the future. I know of no one more influential, more consistent, or more deserving of this award.”
Dr. Robert Parham is executive editor of EthicsDaily.com and founder and executive director of its parent organization, the Baptist Center for Ethics. Reared in Nigeria as the child of missionaries, he has a doctorate from Baylor University, a masters of divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and a bachelors degree in foreign service from Georgetown University. He is the author of several books and a regular contributor to the Washington Post’s “On Faith” Web page. His columns have appeared in daily newspapers such as the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Dallas Morning News, Orlando Sentinel and Tennessean and he has appeared on Fox News, CNN Talk Back Live, MSNBC News Chat, ABC World News Tonight and NPR’s Morning Edition. He is the co-producer/director of several EthicsDaily.com documentaries, including the award-winning “Beneath the Skin,”“Different Books, Common Word,” which aired on more than 130 ABC-TV stations in early 2010, and “Sacred Texts, Social Duty.” He serves on the Commission on Religious Freedom, the Commission on Social and Environmental Justice, and the Commission on Christian Ethics of the Baptist World Alliance, the world’s largest Baptist body.
The MMBB Century of Service Leadership Award recognizes visionary leadership in church, interchurch and transdenominational relationships. MMBB will present the award annually from 2011 through 2013. This period honors the time between the passage of a resolution by the Northern Baptist Convention creating MMBB in 1911 and its subsequent incorporation in 1913.
