2012 Hartford Premium Changes and Open Enrollment Period
MMBB has mailed information about upcoming premium changes—which take effect January 1, 2012—to all members of our Senior Medical Insurance Plan through The Hartford.* This supplemental insurance plan helps bridge the gap between the medical expenses our members incur and what Medicare pays.
As health care costs—and inflation—continue to escalate, the cost of supplemental insurance increases as well. Accordingly, in 2012, monthly premiums will increase 2.94% to 11.24%, depending upon your plan and your state of residence. Plan benefits remain the same, and MMBB will continue to contribute a monthly premium subsidy of $50 per covered person for eligible retired members.
Fall also marks the annual open enrollment period for members. This is a good time to review your health care needs for the coming year and make any changes necessary to ensure your coverage will be updated for 2012. For 2012, you can make the following changes:
- Switch from one plan to another (if eligible)
- Add a spouse to your coverage (both member and spouse must be covered by the same plan)
- Drop coverage for a spouse or for both a member and a spouse
Hartford members will receive a separate mailing from UMR this month detailing open enrollment options and including a change form to complete and return to UMR, if changes are needed. Open enrollment runs from September 26 to November 18, and changes made during this period will become effective January 1, 2012. UMR will send confirmation statements outlining plan changes and new premium amounts, if applicable, following receipt of the completed change form. In the meantime, feel free to contact UMR with any questions at 866.868.0502, option 2.
