Memories submitted by members of the MMBB family.
The Salary Support program in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s was a real help. Because of the expectations place upon the congregation in participating in the program, after two or three years the congregation was able to continue adequate salary without the help of MMBB – a success story. Wayne M. Paulson
My pastor died suddenly in 1985, leaving a wife who was a paraplegic crippled by MS. MMBB was there for her. They provided death and retirement benefits for her and unbelievable assistance to the church as they helped secure a place for her. Cal Lord
My memory of MMBB arriving at my home, a check in hand, the day after my father passed away is very vivid…The next year and a half as I completed college, I routinely corresponded with MMBB as I received a monthly check to assist me in meeting my college expenses. Personal relationships with staff throughout the years has been extremely valuable. Thank you! Rev. Dan Taylor
When our second daughter was born, she was treated in NICU for one week. The hospital bill was far beyond our capacity. MMBB arranged for a grant to cover that bill. I have been deeply grateful to MMBB ever since. Rev. Carol McVetty
As newly-called ministers of Oakhurst Baptist Church in Decatur, my husband and I joined MMBB in 1990. Four years later, the same MMBB representative who welcomed and oriented us, helped us with support from MMBB to adopt our daughter, Anna, who is here today as a Youth Delegate. Thanks to MMBB for their kindness and care for us as ABC clergy and new parents! Deborah Bennett Reynolds
One time a fellow pastor in West Virginia ran into an unforeseen emergency debt he or his extended family couldn’t pay. MMBB stepped in and helped him manage his financial crisis successfully. J.D. Reed, Jr.
While serving as a missionary in South Africa, our house was broken into and EVERYTHING was stolen (belongings, furnishings, safe, passports, credit cards and even grandma’s handmade quilt). MMBB helped us start all over. Dan Cole
MMBB has always responded with great caring and personal connection. Our rep asks about our kids (2, 6, 7 and 9) by name and remembers details not on registers. I’m grateful for the time MMBB has helped this young, stressed mom add our newborn to our health-care policy even though the deadline had passed, I was not a number to our rep, I was a cared-about person, treated with compassion and grace. Amanda Good
It is great to know that we have a knowledgeable family organization that care for us as individuals and as a family. Thank you! Edwin N. Aymat
Through MMBB News & Notes, I’ve been able to reach my childhood pastor, now living in retirement in Las Vegas. To give him thanks was a delight. Thank you, MMBB. Brooke Rolston
Gracias a dios por este gran ministerio MMBB, gracias a ustedes mi familia ha sido bendecida grandamente; yo tengo carino y respeto. Felicidades. Rev. Jaime Flores
Thank God for this great ministry MMBB, thanks to you my family has been greatly blessed; I have affection and respect. Congratulations. Rev. Jaime Flores
At the MMBB dinner for the ABQ Ministries National Board (before the Biennial in Syracuse) the air conditioning was not working. It was so hot in the elevators, that as the waiters brought trays of ice cream desserts in elegant goblets from the basement kitchen to the top floor banquet room, the ice cream melted. As the goblets were ceremoniously placed before each person by embarrassed waters, we looked, horrified by what the MMBB executive director, Gordon Smith, would do. Whatever MMBB did, it was proper, elegant, formal. Serving melted ice cream to the National Board of the Women? Never! Nonplussed, Carol Sutton, the Women’s executive director, looked down at her goblet, picked up her cookie – shaped like a straw – and proceeded to slurp up her melted, but still cold, ice cream. Dr. Smith, sitting next to her, saw what she was doing and picked up his cookie and slurped his ice cream alongside her. Betsy Dunbar
I served Baptists in the Caribbean for 18 years as a minister and had no hope of a real nest egg until I joined ABCUSA and MMBB in 2001. My “memory” then, is of a hopelessness, now turned to HOPE! Thanks for the PRESENT memory! Rev. Dr. Michael Friday
My grandfather (1873 – 1928) was a Baptist minister. He was not in MMBB. When his health collapsed, my mother and her sister had to leave their studies at the University of Redlands to go to work to support their parents and teenage sister. Neither could ever finish their studies. My mother inspired me to study and dedicate my life to the Lord’s services. I am very grateful for MMBB. Doris Farnsworth
