Gifts & Bequests
The Ministers and Missionaries Benefit Board (MMBB) was born 100 years ago out of a collective vision to improve the lives of ministers, missionaries, and their families. That vision is still alive today as MMBB seeks to promote interest in the better maintenance of the ministry. While MMBB provides retirement, death, disability and other benefits for clergy, commissioned missionaries and lay employees of churches and related organizations, the desire to see none of those who serve God suffer continues.
MMBB provides grants for living expenses, emergency assistance for overwhelming debt or medical emergencies, educational grants for children of diseased and disabled members, and premium assistance for churches. In 2010 support provided totaled over $4.5 million. This financial services organization not only secures the future of those who participate in its retirement plans, but provides for those who need it most.
You can help continue this tradition by donating to MMBB. Our annual appeal (Heritage of Sharing, begun in 2005) encourages those that have been blessed to give so that others might be helped. Roger Fredrikson, Chair of the Heritage of Sharing Committee said, “I know you have a choice about how to share your financial resources and I hope you will agree that no other appeal comes as close to our hearts as being able to help clergy, missionaries and lay staff in their time of need.”
Our members write:
“Just a note, and a huge thank you to you . . . for renewing my grant thru this year. I thank God every day for . . . the fact that I’m protected from homelessness and can frugally meet basic needs.” – The widow of a pastor
“I just want to thank you for the help you gave for my wife’s hearing aids. We could not have done it without you.” – A retired pastor and his wife.
The help you extend provides a lifeline that often keeps a colleague from the brink of despair. As one of our board members said, “Our generous support provides blessings beyond the spiritual to the physical.” Your donations are needed to keep this money available for use by American Baptist clergy and lay staff of American Baptist churches.
There are several ways by which you can make gifts to MMBB.
- You can make a monetary donation to Heritage of Sharing. Checks may be made payable to MMBB; we also accept most major credit cards. Gifts of Securities are welcome.
- Consider making a memorial gift to honor a friend or loved one.
- Include MMBB in your will.
- Name MMBB as the beneficiary of a retirement/IRA account.
- Name MMBB as the beneficiary of a fully funded life insurance policy.
